Manchester United team news: Solskjaer excited to see Cavani and Ronaldo in action together

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given an update on his plans for Saturday’s clash with Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

We are expected 11 changes from the Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham in midweek and the manager has received a boost with Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani being available for selection again.

“Edinson has joined in training fully after that game [on Wednesday] and he’s held his hand up and is ready,” Solskjaer told club media as per ManUtd.com. “Last season as well, he didn’t have a pre-seaspn when he came here. He’s so professional and meticulous and, of course, we’re glad to now have him back training with us and in the squad.”

The opportunity to play Cavani with Cristiano Ronaldo excites the manager, so we could get a glimpse of them in action together this weekend against Villa.

“It’s exciting and exciting to see those two together, I’m sure that’ll be a good partnership as well, we see teams dropping deep against us, not giving space in behind and they’re two boys you’d like to see in that scenario, I can see those two working well together,” Solskjaer told the press at his press conference, as per the Manchester Evening News.

Unfortunately, the 34-year-old has played just once in the last 12 weeks since Uruguay were knocked out of the Copa America and has been sidelined with injury.

At least Ronaldo has scored in all three of his appearances back at United – and he could become the first post-war player at United to score their first four games after signing for the club on Saturday.

David de Gea, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, and Luke Shaw are all set to return, with Ronaldo, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood all likely to come back into the starting XI.
