Cristiano Ronaldo could claim Champions League record vs Young Boys

Cristiano Ronaldo will become the joint-record appearance holder in the Champions League if he appears tonight against Young Boys.

Ronaldo, who has made 176 appearances in the competition, is one behind former Real Madrid team-mate Iker Casillas on 177, but he only needs to get onto the pitch to equal that record.

The Portuguese superstar has not played in the Champions League for United since the 2009 final in Rome when Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona side proved too strong.

Hopefully, this season we will have another run at the biggest honour in European football – which suddenly becomes a realistic aim following the arrival of Ronaldo. It would be a significant improvement on reaching the Europa League final, only to lose against Villarreal.

Lionel Messi will be trying to add another Champions League to his CV at Paris Saint-Germain, and Ronaldo will be doing the same at Old Trafford.

This is the greatest big-game player to have eve4r played the game and he thrives on it.

Viva Ronaldo!
