Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw react to Raphael Varane joining Man Utd

The most recent summer transfer window is arguably the best for a number of years and one of the incomings, Raphael Varane, has already impressed after joining from Real Madrid.

The four-time Champions League winner was unveiled in spectacular fashion last month as he walked out on the Old Trafford pitch ahead of the Premier League curtain-raiser against Leeds United.

The 28-year-old received a heartwarming reception and he made his debut two weeks later, keeping a clean sheet and registering an assist in a 1-0 win at Wolves.

Varane figured alongside United captain Harry Maguire for the fixture, with the England star now full of praise of the 2018 World Cup winner.

“Obviously, really excited to get him at the club and to work alongside him,” he told UMM. “I think him coming in will bolster the defensive unit.

“We can learn off each other, we can push each other and that’s what we want for the club. We want to keep more clean sheets and the more competition, the better.”

Maguire, along with Luke Shaw, was one of the top performers at this summer’s European Championship and the left-back went straight to the point in his assessment of Varane, highlighting his long list of accolades.

“You know, he’s pretty much win everything and of course he’s bringing that experience here,” the 26-year-old said.

The England duo are the latest players to welcome Varane to the club, with fellow centre-back Victor Lindelöf insisting that the competitive nature at the club is beneficial.
