Mason Greenwood wins ‘Player of the Month’ award for August

Manchester United youngster Mason Greenwood has been rewarded for his fine form in August by winning the club’s internal ‘Player of the Month’ award. The 19-year-old has started the season in inspired form, scoring in all three of United’s Premier League games so far.

After an impressive end to last season, Greenwood was included in Gareth Southgate’s provisional squad to this summer’s European Championships but the teenager had to pull out due to a longstanding groin injury.

Instead, he returned early to pre-season training and the extended break seems to have paid off, with all three goals so far coming in decisive moments.

Greenwood scored the goal to regain United’s lead against Leeds on August 14 before netting the equaliser against Southampton a week later. Just before the international break, he scored to give United all three points against Wolves.

Greenwood’s efforts have also been recognised on a wider scale, with the lethal winger also up for the Premier League’s ‘Player of the Month’ award. In the internal voting, Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes finished second and third respectively, Manchester United have confirmed.
