Manchester United centre-back duo Teden Mengi and Phil Jones are set to stay at the club this summer despite speculation of a move elsewhere.

That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Manchester United are set to keep hold of both players as the window nears its deadline on August 31.

It’s believed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will work with both players this season, rather than sending them out on loan. Jones, who hasn’t made a Premier League appearance for the club since January 2020, is still working his way back to full fitness after suffering a serious knee injury.

In the report, it’s also said that a loan for Jones has been explored by the club but in reality, interested parties will wait to see if Jones can prove his fitness. Earlier this week, Stretty News explained why this was the case.

Mengi spent the second half of last season on loan at Derby under Wayne Rooney but had his brief spell cut short after sustaining an injury, which resulted in the teenager returning to Manchester United. There have been enquiries for Mengi but ultimately the club decided that staying at United would aid his development.
