Amad’s shirt number went from 19 to 16 over the summer.
The Ivorian is seen as one of the club’s most exciting young prospects and could join Championship outfit Sheffield United on loan before the transfer deadline.
Even though the club announced the signing of Jadon Sancho, who plays primarily on the right, Amad is still part of the manager’s long-term plans.
The club must ensure they can find the right destination for the young winger in the coming days because his opportunities at United are bound to be limited this season.
His response to his number switch over the summer will likely please United fans.
He had to sacrifice the number 19 for new signing Raphael Varane.
Amad told club media, as per ManUtd.com: “When I was told that I was getting the number 16 shirt, I was happy because I know that Michael Carrick had previously worn that shirt for a long time and so it is a number worn by a legend of the club.
“So I have to respect the number and the players who wore it before me.”
Amad didn’t get the chance to prove himself at United this summer because he missed most of the pre-season tour due to the Tokyo Olympics.
