Kalvin Phillips names two Manchester United players who ‘blew us away’

Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips has named two Manchester United players who ‘blew us away’ during training with England this summer.

The midfielder, who was a mainstay in Gareth Southgate’s midfield on their way to the Euro 2020 final, was a surprise pick in the first game of the tournament but his impressive performance earned him a prolonged stay at the heart of England’s midfield.

Phillips has recalled a training drill, in which he teamed up with Luke Shaw and Ben White, where Manchester United duo Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford were especially impressive.

“We did a session, three v three,” he told England’s official YouTube channel. “It was me, Luke Shaw, and Ben White against Sancho, Rashford, and Jordan Henderson.

“They absolutely blew us away. We were doing it for like five hours, different games, and they were just too good.”

Phillips was asked to name his England five-a-side team and to the surprise of no one, named both of the Manchester United stars in his. Rashford is a notoriously skilled five-a-side player and has been hailed by Harry Maguire as ‘one of the best five-a-side players I’ve played with,’ as seen in the video above.

Many would have expected the trio to face each other on the opening day of this season’s Premier League but Sancho and Phillips both started the game on the bench whilst Rashford was ruled out with a shoulder problem.
