Manchester United’s James Garner has joined Nottingham Forest on loan this year, following his short stint at the Championship club last season. He spent the first half of the last season on loan with Watford before moving to Forest in January, where he scored four goals in 20 league games.
Garner’s loan move was announced today, and it has sparked quite the reaction on social media, with Forest fans delighted to have the midfielder back at the club.
Forest lost 1-0 against Stoke City yesterday and they face Wolves in the second round of the League Cup on Tuesday night. That game may come too soon for Garner, who could make his debut against Wayne Rooney’s Derby County next weekend.
Andy Mitten claims Garner wanted to return to Forest via Twitter.
James Garner signs new MUFC contract (2024, plus option of one year extension).
Will now join Nottingham Forest on loan. There was wide interest from accross the championship and abroad, but Garner was always keen to return there. Loves the River Trent.— Andy Mitten (@AndyMitten) August 22, 2021

As well as announcing that Garner would be joining Forest on a season-long loan, the club confirmed that he’d signed a new contract with the club, lasting until June 2024 with the option of an additional year.
Elsewhere on Twitter, Forest fans have been writing their reactions to the return of Garner.
If we hadn't seen this guy play live it would have been a travesty. This is the best news #nffc https://t.co/l2HspHYza6
