Early team news v Everton: Jesse Lingard tests positive for COVID

Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial will all start today in Manchester United’s pre-season friendly against Everton.

Unfortunately, Jesse Lingard has had to pull out of the squad after testing positive for COVID-19, as per ManUtd.com. That means the player will now self-isolate and follow more Government and Premier League guidelines.

There are more names who are in need of minutes on the pitch before next weekend’s Premier League opener against Leeds. The likes of David de Gea, Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba. Although, you could probably throw Victor Lindelof into that list as we’ve got some way to go yet before Raphael Varane can train with his new teammates.

In the lead up to the match, Fernandes told club media: “The standard of Everton is really high and after that there is one week before we start. It will be good to have a last test against a Premier League club with high standards and really good quality players.”

The full team will be released at 11:45 BST. Stay tuned on social media for more by following Stretty News on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Wishing Lingard a speedy recovery!
