Bailly and Amad set for Man Utd return after crashing out of Tokyo 2020

Manchester United duo Eric Bailly and Amad Diallo are set to return to the club after crashing out of this summer’s Tokyo Olympics. The pair were selected in Ivory Coast’s U23 squad and enjoyed a fine group stage but were eliminated by Spain in the quarter-finals.

Bailly scored the opening goal of the game with a scruffy effort and although Spain equalised shortly after, the Elephants regained their lead with just four minutes remaining in stoppage time.

It looked like yet another upset in this summer’s tournament but instead, Spain leveled matters once again and went on to win the game comfortably by a three-goal margin.

Bailly and Amad both featured in all of their games at Tokyo 2020 but will now return to Manchester United as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad continues to prepare for the 2021/22 season. It’s yet unclear whether the pair will return immediately or if they will be made to quarantine before linking up the squad.
