France and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema will be sad to see Raphael Varane leave the Bernabeu this summer as his compatriot closes in on a switch to Manchester United.
The Reds managed to agree a deal with Real Madrid this week and the defender was pictured saying his goodbyes at training on Friday.
Varane will join Harry Maguire in the heart of United’s defence and that might give manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the assurances needed to break up the double pivot of Fred and Scott McTominay, which left a large portion of fans frustrated last term.
The United-bound Frenchman has received well wishes from his international and Madrid teammate Benzema over social media.
Benzema tweeted: “My brother, what more can I say except that you are a legend here. I will miss you I wish you the best in your new challenge with all the happiness. You deserve everything you have accomplished and I wish you even more.”

After a decade-long stay with Los Blancos, it is time to move on and Varane will be surrounded by more brilliant players at Old Trafford.
This summer’s addition of Jadon Sancho is bound to lift bums off seats at Old Trafford – not to mention a collaboration of Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani and eventually Marcus Rashford.
