(Video) Nemanja Matic delivers verdict on 4-2 defeat to QPR

Nemanja Matic has delivered his verdict after captaining Manchester United in their 4-2 defeat to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday. The former Serbia international was the most senior regular to start the game for United but was withdrawn at half-time.

An early goal from Lingard gave Solskjaer’s side a dream start but the young United side conceded an equaliser just minutes later before another three followed shortly after half-time.

The players will be disappointed by the defeat and learn from it but are likely to see the bigger picture. Pre-season fixtures are never about the result, something today’s captain has echoed.

“As you said, it was important to get more minutes in the legs. It’s our second game, we are working hard every day. We are not fresh yet, we are working hard,” he said after the game, as seen above.

“The last couple of days, he was some double sessions. But of course, we don’t want to make excuses for this result today. We have to do better.

“The kids, now, understand what they have to do in senior football. I have to say, they worked really well. We’ll continue to work hard. On Wednesday, we have another very good match against Brentford. We have to keep working and see where we can improve.”

United will face Brentford on Wednesday in their third test of pre-season as they prepare to come up against another London side. Thomas Frank’s side are newly promoted and are set to make their first appearance in the Premier League this season after going up through the Championship play-off’s.
