Wayne Rooney rates imminent Manchester United signing Jadon Sancho

Derby County manager Wayne Rooney thinks imminent arrival Jadon Sancho will be a “very good signing” for Manchester United this season.

The Rams were on the receiving end of a 2-1 defeat as Manchester United started their pre-season preparations with a win over the Championship side, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fielding 23 players over 90 minutes.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed yesterday that they have just a “couple of things” to finalise before Sancho is officially announced as a new signing.

“I don’t think it is a secret that we have made a deal with Dortmund,” Solskjaer said. “We are working on it. There is a couple of things (to complete) on the paperwork.”

After the match Rooney gave his verdict on Sancho joining United.

He told Sky Sports: “He scores goals, creates goals, so I think it’s a very good signing.”

Manchester United have also been linked with moves for La Liga duo Raphael Varane and Kieran Trippier.

“I think there will be a lot of pressure, which there should be with Manchester United,” Rooney added.

“Sancho coming in, they are rumoured to be in for a few more players.

“They are in a period now where the fans will be wanting success, silverware, and Ole and his coaching staff will be under pressure to deliver that.

“[Manchester] City, Chelsea the Champions League winners, Liverpool, there are some very good teams, but you can see with Manchester United they are getting gradually better.

“I think they will be in a place where they really will challenge next season.”

Hopefully this week the tiresome saga comes to an end and Sancho can enjoy the end of pre-season with his new team-mates. Everyone will be eager to see him hit the ground running and he can help deliver Premier League titles at Old Trafford.
