Fabrizio Romano says Man Utd are ‘waiting’ to make official bid for Varane

Having completed the signing of Tom Heaton and announced an agreement for Jadon Sancho, attention is starting to turn at strengthening the defence at Old Trafford. That’s the general consensus in the media and Raphael Varane is said to be the club’s top target this summer.

There have been conflicting reports this summer but with France’s shock exit from Euro 2020, a deal could perhaps be sped up before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer readies his team up ahead of the new season.

According to journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are interested in the player but are ‘waiting’ to make an official bid as they’re still unaware of Real Madrid’s asking price.

Romano also claims, as seen above, that the Spanish club is unlikely to accept a bid in the region of €40-45m. Despite Varane having just one year remaining on his current deal, Real Madrid are said to be demanding more for their star defender.

Furthermore, Romano says that Real Madrid are trying to convince Varane to stay at the club but that the player wishes to ‘try something new’.
