Chelsea challenge Manchester United for highly-rated French starlet with contract set to expire

Reports in France say Chelsea will make a move for Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga to rival Manchester United’s interest.

Le Parisen reckon United are likely to make a bid for Camavinga in the coming days, but Chelsea are also in direct contact with Rennes over the midfielder. And according to The Guardian, Rennes are willing to listen to offers of around €30m (£25.7m) for the young star…

The problem for Rennes is that the their starlet is out of contract next year and they are running the risk of losing him on a free. That way, Camavinga can secure a bigger deal and the new club won’t need to pay a transfer fee.

But with other clubs like Real Madrid also tracking the situation, it may be best to move this summer to seal his signature before the transfer race heats up.

Sky Sports News understands United have held informal talks with the youngster’s entourage, with Rennes keen to offer Camavinga a new deal. The player is allowed to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in January — but can United or Chelsea wait until then?
