Manchester United youngster set to join Wayne Rooney’s Derby on loan

Manchester United defender Teden Mengi is set to join Derby County on loan for a second time, according to reports. The young centre-back joined Wayne Rooney’s side halfway through last season but was forced to return to his parent club due to injury.

The 19-year-old is highly rated by Manchester United and has already made his debut for the club in the Europa League, then at the age of 18.

Derby beat the drop by the skin of their teeth on the final day of last season and a move to the Championship, with regular football, could prove to be an invaluable experience for Mengi.

According to The Athletic, Derby are close to securing a deal with Manchester United for the return of Mengi for a full season, rather than the planned six-month commitment last January.

James Garner enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in the Championship last season with Nottingham Forest, an experience Mengi will be sure to take inspiration from.
