Former Man Utd captain set for shock return to the Premier League

Former Manchester United winger and captain Ashley Young is set for a shock return to the Premier League, according to reports. The winger-turned-defender left Manchester United last year for a brief spell in Italy but a return to England is now on the horizon.

The 35-year-old called an end to his nine-year spell at Manchester United just before the COVID-19 pandemic called a halt to football, but enjoyed a successful 18-month adventure under Antonio Conte.

Young was one of four United players to join Inter in the space of six months but returns to England with a Serie A winners medal, proving that his decision to move abroad was worthwhile.

The former Watford product was heavily linked with a move to Sean Dyche’s Burnley, but according to BBC journalist Simon Stone, Aston Villa are set to bring their former star back to Villa Park.

Sir Alex Ferguson sanctioned a £15.4m move for Young 10 years ago, bringing his four-year tenure at Aston Villa to an end. But with a return looking likely, Young is set for a reunion with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
