Ole Gunnar Solskjaer considers Aaron Wan-Bissaka position switch in pre-season

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly considering switching Aaron Wan-Bissaka to a new position in pre-season, after two campaigns as his trusted right-back. Wan-Bissaka is one of the few United regulars who won’t be involved in international football this summer and will return in time for the full pre-season.

The full-back has at times been a frustrating figure on the flank but has made up for lacking in attack by being solid at the other, a quality that has endeared to Solskjær and his coaching staff.

United completed the £50 million signing of Wan-Bissaka in 2019 and have helped him develop into more of an attacking threat but with the club in pursuit of Kieran Trippier, supposedly for competition, it is now being reported that the manager is considering a switch to the heart of United’s defence for Wan-Bissaka.

According to The Sun, Solskjaer will try Wan-Bissaka at centre-back in pre-season to see if he can handle that position. He is seen as United’s fastest defender and their best tackler, making for exceptional quality needed in their backline.

Gareth Southgate has overlooked him on a number of occasions and the England managed picked four right-backs in his Euro 2020 squad, sparking outrage from pundits and public figures.

United are in the hunt for a long-term partner to Harry Maguire and with doubts over Victor Lindelöf, Wan-Bissaka could prove to be able in that position. Pau Torres and Cristian Romero have both been linked with a move to Old Trafford but both deals would demand a high transfer sum.

  1. Think we should go for Kimmich the guys top class and has bags of skill and would be exactly what we need

  2. Wan-Bissaka at CB?
Might work as he is more defensive minded than attacking.
He is strong and accurate in his tackles. Next will be to see if he can read the game well.
Who will replace him at right back then? Williams and Laird certainly aren’t ready for such a step up and Dalot isn’t good enough. Buy a new right back?
What about converting Tuanzebe into a holding midfielder? Instead of wasting his talent, Solskjaer should consider trying Tuanzebe out in as a defensive midfielder. He’s strong, good on the ball, tackles well and has fair passing abilities.
SAF was very good at this! He made very good defensive midfielders out of Phil Neville and John O’Shea!
Solskjaer should follow suit and make the best of his current squad!
