Real Madrid star Raphael Varane available for as little as €35m

If Manchester United can sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid for €35m this summer, I’ll happily eat the happy I am wearing whilst writing this report.

It would be an absolute steal to get Varane for that money – and it all comes down to his contract situation at the Bernabeu, which you can only hope is a situation United are closely monitoring.

Harry Maguire missed the end of the season due to injury, but one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s biggest tasks this summer is the find an ideal partner for the skipper in the heart of United’s defence.

At 28, United would be getting a vastly experienced defender in Varane, someone who knows how to win league titles, European Cups and the World Cup to really spice things up.

Appearing on El Partidazo de COPE, Paco Gonzalez stated that Varane is one of three players, along with Sergio Ramos and Isco, who are set to leave this summer. He added that Varane could go for a fee of just €35-40m. The player’s expires in the summer of 2020 and it doesn’t sound like the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti is going to change his mind.

From this report it sounds like Madrid are prepared to sell Varane in order to obtain a fee rather than losing him on a Bosman next summer.

Varane has been linked with a move to United, as per The Mirror, and his name has been on the club’s radar ever since his days in the Lens academy. Though he ended the season with an injury, he was quite solid throughout the campaign and remains one of the best defender out there.

What a signing he would be!
