Aston Villa keeper Tom Heaton set for Manchester United return

Out of nowhere, it sounds like Tom Heaton will be returning to Manchester United.

I’ve read the odd report but thought it was mere speculation, but now The Mirror has exclusively revealed the 35-year-old will return to Old Trafford as a free agent as his contract at Aston Villa expires this summer.

With the structure of United’s first team next season still uncertain as we approach the summer transfer window, it remains to be seen who will be first choice between the sticks at Old Trafford next season.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows it will be difficult to keep both David de Gea and Dean Henderson at the club next season, with a lot hanging on his selection for tomorrow night’s Europa League final, and it sounds like Heaton will be back-up.

Heaton left United and, in recent years, became recognised as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League – earning 3 England caps.

He spent six years at Burnley and has been at Villa for two years.

The report claims United held talks in the past few weeks but the deal now looks done and agreed.
