Eric Bailly names his two picks for Man United’s ‘Player of the Season’

Manchester United fans are soon set to vote on which senior player should be awarded this year’s Sir Matt Busby award.

The illustrious award, which is deep-rooted in United history, includes previous winners such as Eric Cantona, Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, David De Gea and most recently Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes has enjoyed yet another monumental season.

Having so far racked up an impressive 27 goals and 17 assists in all competitions, the Portuguese star is well on course to claim a consecutive Sir Matt Busby award.

However, defender Bailly believes two other first-team stars could be in with a shout to claim the sought after award.

Speaking to the club’s matchday programme (as quoted by the Mirror), when asked who has been the Red Devils’ best performer this year, the Ivorian said: “It’s very hard to say one player, but for me, if I have to choose, then I choose two players: Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw. For me they deserve it, that’s just my opinion.

“Then also we have Harry [Maguire], Fred, Scott [McTominay]… I could say so many names! So I keep with Aaron and Luke.”

Both full-backs have undoubtedly enjoyed excellent campaigns and while Shaw claims the weekly plaudits, his full-back partner Wan-Bissaka has been exceptionally consistent.

Despite having very little competition for his spot at right-back, the ex-Crystal Palace man appears determined to push on and continue his impressive rise in England’s top-flight.

Between Shaw and Wan-Bissaka, they have so far featured in a whopping 95 matches, in all competitions this season, directly contributing to 14 goals along the way.
