Manchester United captain Harry Maguire was overheard unleashing an x-rated rant to referee Chris Kavanagh during Sunday’s Premier League match against Aston Villa.
Coming into the game, United boasted the better domestic record after going on a 13 game unbeaten run.
However, despite starting well, the Red Devils were the side to fall behind first.
A stunning strike from Villans’ attacker Bertrand Traore after just 24-minutes saw recalled goalkeeper Dean Henderson left with very little chance of keeping the top-corner effort out.
Although there will be few complaints about Dean Smith’s men leading, skipper Maguire did launch scathing criticism at referee Kavanagh following an earlier decision.
A mid-air collision between Bruno Fernandes and Ezri Konsa saw the Villa centre-back fall to the ground – upon closer inspection it became apparent that the defender had hurt his knee, however, Kavanagh’s decision was to award a free-kick following what he perceived to be a head injury.
Maguire was overheard by Manchester Evening News’ Samuel Luckhurst telling Sunday’s match official exactly what he thought.
Maguire to ref Kavanagh: ‘F**k off.’ Every right to feel aggrieved because it wasn’t a head injury to Ngoyo. Ref seemed to blow up for a ‘head injury’ and has now seems to have given Villa a free-kick. #mufc
