Roy Keane hits nail on head with response to Man United fans’ anti-Glazer protest

Roy Keane understands the years of frustration and anger that led to a powerful Old Trafford protest from supporters vehemently against the Glazer ownership.

United’s Premier League fixture against Liverpool was postponed on Sunday after thousands of fans descended on the stadium and the nearby Lowry Hotel which prevented players accessing the ground.

Emotions spilled over as up to 200 fans accessed the pitch and boxes inside the stadium.

But for thousands in their majority in the Old Trafford forecourt and beyond, it was a chance to voice distain at the American owners who have treated them with contempt for 16 years since their toxic leveraged takeover.

The Glazers have saddled the club with debt and used it’s own commercial success from the global fanbase to take money out.

United fans’ hatred has been quietly simmering but the farcical manner in which the European Super League fiasco unfolded has reignited the fire and it won’t be put out easily.

United great Keane, who lead the club through an era of dominance before the Glazer takeover, is under no illusions to why the scenes unfolded at Old Trafford.

Keane spoke from the heart inside the ground and explained how United fans had to ‘put a marker down’ so they are heard this time round.

“I think it’s been building for a number of years now, that frustration, and they’ve come to the end and thought “enough is enough,” he said on Sky Sports, as quoted by the Mail.

“It’s been building up over the last few years – disappointment in communication, stuff going on in the backroom, tickets, whatever it might be.

“The leadership of the club has not been good enough, when they look at the owners and feel it’s just about making money. The statement today is huge for the game to be called off.

“Sometimes you have to put a marker down for people to take notice and this will go all over the world now and people will have to sit up and take note.

“Hopefully the owners of Man United will say “these fans are deadly serious” and there’s more to come. This is just the start of it for United fans, mark my words.

“This is just the start for United fans and their plan is for the United owners to give in and sell the club.”
