Eric Cantona has spoken out about the disregard for the fans in an impassioned statement about the European Super League proposals.
Twelve European clubs, including Manchester United, have caused shockwaves across the footballing world by announcing a breakaway league that will effectively end European competition as we know it.
Co-owner Joel Glazer described how the proposed league will ‘open a new chapter for European football’ in an official statement on the club’s website.
United’s owners have played a central role in pushing for these new plans but that has not stopped club icon Cantona expressing his dismay at the ignorance of these self-entitled, greedy owners.
Cantona led United into a sustained period of dominance in English football but any similar success would now feel hollow if these proposed ESL plans are pushed through.
The 54-year-old says football is boring without the fans and is frustrated they have not been considered at all in this proposal.
