Chris Smalling gives thanks for support after being robbed at gunpoint

Roma defender Chris Smalling has took to social media to post a message of thanks to those who offered support to his family following an armed robbery at their home in Italy on Friday.

Reports claim three gunmen broke into the former Manchester United defender’s house in Rome at 5am and confronted Smalling before forcing the 31-year-old to open the safe and hand over three Rolex watches, jewellery and cash.

Smalling has confirmed that no-one was physically harmed during the incident, but we only try to understand how much shock his family are in.

“I’d like to thank everyone for your well wishes and support!” Smalling wrote on Twitter.

“My family although very shaken up are luckily unharmed!

“Hoping these people can find a more meaningful way to live their lives without causing such harm and distress to others.”

Marcus Rashford posted a tweet wishing his former team-mate support.

“Thinking about you @ChrisSmalling and your lovely family. So sorry to wake up to the news this morning. Can’t imagine how you’re feeling but I hope you’re ok.”
