Odion Ighalo has pleaded with Manchester United to do all they can to keep Paul Pogba beyond this summer’s transfer window.
Pogba was arguably United’s best player as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side dismantled Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The French midfielder is set to play a crucial role in United’s run-in but his long-term future remains uncertain amid incessant rumours about him leaving Old Trafford.
Ighalo, who scored five goals in an unlikely loan spell from Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua last year, said that Pogba is one of the best players he has ever had the pleasure of playing with.
The Nigerian striker, now at Saudi Arabian side Al-Shabab, believes United must keep Pogba if there is any opportunity to do so this summer because of his influence in the team.
Pogba’s versatility has benefited Solskjaer, whose attacking options have been threadbare of late due to various injury problems.
The World Cup winner played in a front-three at Tottenham on Sunday but is also effective deeper in midfield.
Ighalo wants his former club to tie Pogba down to a longer-term deal after his ‘exceptional’ performance in the comeback victory over Spurs.
