Harry Maguire was a contender for man of the match on his 100th Manchester United appearance in an important 2-1 victory over Brighton at Old Trafford.
United moved four points clear in second place in the Premier League and now look almost certain for a top four finish as they extended the gap to fifth to 11 points.
Goals from Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood completed a second-half turnaround after United academy Danny Welbeck gave Graham Potter’s side a deserved lead going into the break.
Captain Maguire seldom misses a game for United and has reached the 100 club in rapid time. His ever-presence deserves plaudits and he was again an instrumental figure for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The England international made a vital block to avoid Brighton compounding United’s embarrassment before the break.
Some will feel he was fortunate to avoid punishment as Welbeck went down in the box but the defender did just enough.
Maguire ended the game without losing an aerial duel or tackle, and had a solid 84% pass accuracy as he looked to be positive on the ball.
United’s skipper built on his successful international break and celebrates an impressive landmark with three points this evening.
