Jesse Lingard and Luke Shaw have been named on an eight-man shortlist for the Premier League player of the month award.

Loanee Lingard was ineligible to play for West Ham in United’s 1-0 victory at Old Trafford but the midfielder shone in his two other fixtures to continue his superb spell under David Moyes.

The England international, who was recalled and started against San Marino on Thursday, scored a penalty rebound against Leeds and netted a wonder strike as well as picking up an assist against Arsenal.

Lingard is offering Ole Gunnar Solskjaer something to think about when he returns to Untied this summer.

Shaw, meanwhile, is the best left-back in the league and proved that with more consistent performances.

He was important in United keeping three clean sheets but his attacking influence is what has been so impressive and that was highlighted with the goal against Manchester City.

Shaw was man-of-the-match at the Etihad as United ended City’s long winning-streak and netted a superb goal that was preceded by his own attacking ambition.

The 25-year-old will certainly be a contender for the award but he faces still competition from players who have also had notable months.

Andreas Christensen, Kelechi Iheanacho, Harry Kane, Riyad Mahrez, Illan Meslier, and Leandro Trossard also impressed in March.

Supporters can vote on the official Premier League website until March 29 and those votes will be combined with a panel of experts to decide the outcome.
