Dean Henderson praised Chris Wilder with the Sheffield United boss set to be sacked by the club.
Sportsmail revealed on Friday that the Blades boss is walking a tightrope at Bramall Lane.
Henderson played under Wilder during his two successful seasons on loan with the Yorkshire club, helping them gain Premier League promotion in 2018-2019 before going on to a surprise package in the top-flight after finishing ninth.
Life without Henderson has been a struggle for the Blades with the Championship awaiting their return next season.
He had a good relationship with Wilder during his time at the club and was quick to pay tribute to all he had done for his career to date.
‘Thank you for everything you did for me!! Don’t ever underestimate what you did for Sheffield United!’ – Henderson wrote on Instagram.

This is obviously in reaction to the news that Wilder faces at axe right now, but is the club really going to throw a statue in with that? There will be people who suggest they should and I’d probably side with a lot of their argument, though I’m not sure sacking a manager and giving him a statue is very normal.
Wilder brought them up from the Championship and should be given the chance to do it again. They were an excellent side last term, what on earth happened?
