Dean Henderson

Commanded box and throw to Shaw sparked United’s second. Staked his claim for the number one spot with near flawless showing. 8

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

He often thrives at the Etihad and had the better of Sterling once again. Diligent defensive display. 7

Harry Maguire

Captain’s performance as he lead against one of the best frontlines across Europe. Brave playing a high line and produced number of crucial clearances. 8

Victor Lindelof

There was some concern from fans when the Swede was preferred to Bailly but Lindelof is a man for the big occasion. Read City’s attacks brilliantly and was courageous on the ball. 9

Luke Shaw

Superb goal will be a highlight of his career and it was preceded by his own attacking ambition. Proficient defensively and he keeps getting better going forward. 9

Fred

Often swarmed in the opening minutes but wasn’t unnerved and played with confidence and heart. 7

Scott McTominay

Imprecise in possession too often in first-half but became more composed and he was a nuisance for City who struggled to build sustained pressure. 7

Bruno Fernandes

Maligned by some for record against ‘Big Six’ but  delivered when it mattered. Showed bottle to score penalty and was the platform United attacked from. 7

Marcus Rashford

Assisted Shaw for crucial second and his desire to work back off the ball ultimately led to injury. 7

Daniel James

Saw little of the ball in the opening stages but his work rate has to be admired and he provided great support for Wan-Bissaka. 7

Anthony Martial

Won the penalty in the first-minute and that set the tone for his best performance in months. The only criticism can be his profligate finishing. 8
