Arsenal and Manchester United linked to young Bundesliga defender

Every man and his dog know Manchester United need a new defender in the summer transfer window.

RB Leipzig are already losing Dayot Upamecano to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, but they could lose another thrilling prospect in Ibrahima Konate.

The Evening Standard suggest Mikel Arteta’s side have joined the race to sign the RB Leipzig central defender at the end of the season.

My thinking would be that the German club will look to keep Konate for at least one more season. That way his profile will increase, and they could end up getting more money from a sale because it’s not like clubs will be spending crazy this year with the coronavirus pandemic still causing financial unrest throughout the world.

The Independent (H/t Miguel Delaney) put Konate’s name in the United gossip columns last month and that shouldn’t be overlooked.

He still inexperienced but we don’t know exactly what sort of defender Solskjaer plans to partner alongside Maguire. Whoever it is will need pace in abundance if United are to compete at a high level in Europe throughout the coming years.

Finally, with RB Leipzig challenging in the Bundesliga this season, do they really want to take another big hit after losing Upamecano? Selling their next best defender would be a careless move.
