Report: Man United and Leeds interested in signing Torino defender on free transfer

Manchester United and Premier League rivals Leeds are both interested in signing Torino defender Nicolas N’Koulou, according to reports in Italy.

Tuttosport claim that United and Leeds are both considering signing N’Koulou as a free-agent, with his Torino contract set to expire this summer.

N’Koulou, 30, joined the Serie A side in 2017 but will now be looking for a new club and reportedly has several clubs interested in his services.

It is added in Tuttosport’s report that United have already watched the central defender this season and he could prove a low-cost option in the summer window.

But N’Koulou has made just 11 Serie A appearances this season and will have turned 31 by the time he chooses his next club.

It would be surprising if these reports are accurate given United’s need for a proven, elite central defender when the transfer window reopens.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s requirement for a new top level centre back that can partner captain  Harry Maguire has been highlighted on countless occasions this season, and N’Koulou does not fit the profile of the type of defender United should be targeting.
