Bruno Fernandes came inches to giving Manchester United the lead in style in their Europa League round-of-32 second leg tie against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford.
United lead 4-0 after the first-leg demolition in Turin and there are no such fears of a remarkable turnaround midway through the first-half.
La Real could have taken the lead in the early stages but Mikel Oyarzabal missed the targeted with an awful penalty.
Midway through the first period, Mason Greenwood found Fred through towards goal and the Brazilian pulled back to Fernandes with goalkeeper Alex Remiro off his line.
Fernandes had one thing on his mind and curled a superb effort towards the far corner with half the goal protected by a Real Sociedad defender.
United’s captain for the evening was unfortunate to strike the crossbar. It’s the closest the Reds have come so far in extending their sizeable advantage in the tie.
