Solskjaer reacts to Juve, Roma and Inter links to Juan Mata

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is “not surprised” teams are interested in signing Juan Mata on a free this summer.

The Spaniard’s contract is set to expire in June and has only featured seven times in the Premier League this season, with younger players selected ahead of him most weeks. For instance, three of those appearances came from the bench.

Mata would start games elsewhere and it’s important to realise that while he’s getting older, the team is getting younger and improving.

Mata made an appearance at the weekend in the 3-1 win over Newcastle and could feature again tomorrow night versus Real Sociedad. The tie is dead and buried at 4-0 but experience will be required if the manager plans to give minutes to some of the kids recently added to the senior squad.

Solskjaer has already announced that Hannibal Mejbri will be out for a month injured, and it might be an opportunity to give Mata one of his final games in a United shirt.

There’s still a lot of football to play this season but there must be a good chance of Mata leaving the club this summer.

On the reported interest from Juventus, Roma and Inter – as reported by The Sun – Solskjaer told journalists (via MEN): “I’m not surprised that teams are interested in him.

“One, he is a very good footballer, and two, he is a fantastic human being.

“I am sure Juan has been able to speak to other clubs if he wanted to. We have a good dialogue.”
