Confirmed Manchester United XI to face Newcastle: Daniel James and Anthony Martial start

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has included Daniel James and Anthony Martial in his Manchester United starting lineup to face Newcastle at Old Trafford.

United are looking for the first win in three in the Premier League after draws against Everton at West Brom hit a severe dent to any possibility of a title challenge.

But the Reds were emphatic as they dismantled Real Sociedad 4-0 in the Europa League on Thursday and will be confident against Steve Bruce’s Magpies, who are sitting precariously in 17th place in the league table.

Solskjaer has made four changes from the side that defeated La Real in style in Turin three days ago.

David de Gea returns in goal despite another clean sheet from Dean Henderson in midweek.

Luke Shaw replaces Alex Telles at left-back to complete a familiar back four with captain Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Nemanja Matic lines up alongside Fred in the midfield pivot and Bruno Fernandes supports an attacking trident of Daniel James, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

Edinson Cavani and Donny van de Beek both missed the trip to Turin and won’t be involved in any capacity this evening.

United’s bench includes teenager winger Amad, who played 12 minutes in his debut against La Real on Thursday.

Shola Shoretire, 17, is also on the bench after being unused in the midweek Europa League victory.

Man Utd XI to face Newcastle: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Matic, Fred; Fernandes, James, Martial, Rashford.
