Solskjaer gives Man Utd team update ahead of Newcastle – Cavani could return

Manchester United take on Newcastle in the Premier League on Sunday and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given an update on Edinson Cavani and Donny van de Beek after both players missed the Europa League first leg win over Real Sociedad on Thursday night.

Solskjaer didn’t sound confident about either Cavani or Van de Beek being available to face the Magpies, though I’m not sure many supporters think the Dutchman would’ve been starting the game either way.

It’s different with Cavani because he’s our main man up front and our other forwards haven’t been very consistent in front of goal. Without Bruno Fernandes in midfield, I fear thinking about where we’d be in the league.

Solskjaer at least says they’ve got a chance of making it but he won’t make a call on that until Saturday – United’s final day of training before hosting Steve Bruce’s side.

Paul Pogba and Phil Jones are still injured so Solskjaer completely ruled them out.

Scott McTominay picked up a knock against Sociedad last night but the manager does not know yet how serious it is. Every United fan will have their fingers and toes crossed hoping the Scotland international is ready to play on Sunday.
