Klopp discusses texts from Sir Alex Ferguson, but doesn’t wonder about United job

There are claims that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was approached by Manchester United in 2013 and ahead of today’s game he has reiterated that he made the right call.

The Liverpool boss says he never contemplated life at Manchester United despite revealing his close friendship with Sir Alex Ferguson.

Klopp was approached by United in 2013 but was still under contract at Borussia Dortmund, as per Sky Sports, but he’d eventually join Liverpool and get them back winning in Europe as well as their first league crown in 30-years.

When asked about his decision, Klopp said (via Liverpool Echo): “I never thought how it would have been at Manchester, not once. Not for one second.

“I’m completely fine here, I’m in the right place. That’s all good.

“Even the weather is better in Liverpool than Manchester for some reason!”

Manchester United travel to Anfield today for a top-of-the-league clash against Klopp’s side. A win for the Red Devils would see us move six points clear of Liverpool — something the German coach will want to avoid with Man City and Leicester breathing down their necks.

It’s a big game for both sides and we’re old enough to know form goes out the window in these fixtures. United need to be up for the occasion and it should help not having any fans at Anfield.

“Alex and I, we have contact,” Klopp added. “He texts. Alex changes his phone number quite frequently and I always get a new version. That’s a big honour.

“I get a message saying ‘this is my new number’ and I think ‘wow!’. I haven’t changed my number that often — maybe I should!

“I have a really good relationship with Alex. We are friends when we work together for something good, but on Sunday he wants Manchester United to win and I want Liverpool to win.”
