Manchester United are expected to reignite their interest in Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez when the January transfer window opens.
Niguez, who turns 26 today, joined Atletico Madrid in 2008 for free from Real Madrid’s U17s team. The pursuit to sign him back then was worth it considering he has become one of the world’s most recognised midfielders after his performances in the UEFA Champions League.
Saul has played 301 matches for Atletico Madrid and has been directly involved in 59 goals across all competitions.
However, his 12 years at Atletico Madrid could be coming to an end…
According to a report from Todo Fichajes, United have a long-standing interest in Saul. A move could be made in January after they failed to make one in the summer.
It is claimed that Atletico Madrid will demand £134m for his signature, but I can’t see anyone paying that money for Saul.
Saul’s current deal at Atletico Madrid sees his contracted until 2026, with Todo Fichajes reporting that United will offer him a contract until the same year but with the advent incentive of doubling his wages.
