Gary Neville names Fernandes and surprise name in best Man Utd overseas XI

Gary Neville has sparked plenty of debate on social media after naming his best Manchester United overseas XI.

The United great was asked to take part in naming his best team of players to wear the red shirt, excluding those from the UK, and it makes for interesting reading.

Of course, there are some shoo-ins for an overseas United team, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Nemanja Vidic, Eric Cantona and Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

But other positions are more thought-provoking and two of Neville’s selections are particularly interesting.

Bruno Fernandes has only been at Old Trafford since January but his impact has been quite incredible.

The Portuguese playmaker has netted 16 goals in 28 appearances, inspired the Reds back to the Champions League and become the fulcrum in Solskjaer’s team.

Juan Sebastian Veron is considered by many as a United flop but he still did enough in his short time in Manchester to warrant a place in Neville’s midfield alongside Fernandes.

Veron came in as a big-money, marquee signing from Lazio in 2001 but failed to live up to expectations and was sold to Chelsea two years later.

The Argentine’s inclusion was perhaps the most controversial selection in Neville’s side.
