Hakim Ziyech’s assessment of Van de Beek will excite United fans

Manchester United fans haven’t seen enough of Donny van de Beek and questions are building.

The Netherlands international is represented by Sjaak Swart, who in September admitted that he was not pleased with the amount of playing time his client had been receiving since his move to Old Trafford.

The season has only started but neither Swart or Van de Beek will be best pleased with how things have gone to date, though my hoping is the player will be more understanding that the manager will try implement him into the team over a period of time.

“A substitute, I don’t like it at all,” Swart told Voetbal Primeur when asked about Van de Beek.

“I couldn’t do it myself, substituting in with four minutes left to play. Then you’d better let me sit down.”

Such a take, from someone working in football, seems bizarre. Van de Beek needs to remain patient and wait for his chance to come. He’s a new player at the club and of course Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is going to find games where he needs him to work his magic.

It’s a big step up from subbing on Jesse Lingard when we’re trying to change a game, continue a winning run or progress into the next round of a competition.

Hakim Ziyech knows all about Van de Beek from the time they spent together at Ajax.

The Moroccan was asked about his old friend during a press conference and gave a positive assessment of the United midfielder.

They’ve spoken on and off since moving to England, but they are also going down different paths in their career.

Ziyech and Van de Beek have become rivals, although the former is convinced the Ajax academy graduate will impress during his time at Old Trafford.

Manchester United host Chelsea on Saturday (kick-off 17:30), with the Reds going into the game after beating PSG 2-1 in Paris on Tuesday night. Frank Lampard’s side also got back to Champions League football after drawing at home to Sevilla.
