Man United looking to bulk up midfield maestro with new training programme

Manchester United’s fitness coaches are reportedly hopeful they can bulk new-signing Donny van de Beek’s physical stature up after putting him on the same training regime as current midfielder Bruno Fernandes and former legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

van de Beek, 23, joined United earlier this summer after a move from Ajax cost the Reds’ hierarchy £35.1m as per TransferMarkt.

Despite scoring on his debut against Crystal Palace after coming on as a second-half substitute, the Dutch midfielder has since found himself left on the bench for all of his new side’s Premier League games.

However, according to a recent report from The Sun, United’s fitness coaches are hoping to build van de Beek’s muscle by putting him on the same strength training programme as Fernandes.

The Sun’s report claims that fellow midfielder Jesse Lingard added 3lb of chest muscle over the summer after undertaking a series of chest presses and pull-ups.

In addition to the recent claims that van de Beek has been given a bespoke fitness programme, it has also been reported that the Dutchman is widely regarded as one of the best trainers at the club after his ‘fantastic’ attitude was likened to David Beckham’s.

van de Beek will be hopeful manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will award him with his first start on the weekend when the Reds face-off against Newcastle United in the Premier League.
