Eric Bailly sends injury update to fans after being forced off as Ivory Coast draw against Belgium

It was a fright for everyone concerned at Manchester United when Eric Bailly went down injured on international duty last night.

From where I was watching, it looked like United could be without the defender for their upcoming game against Newcastle United after he suffered what appeared to be a hamstring injury playing against Belgium.

Bailly started in United’s disastrous 6-1 defeat to Spurs on Sunday after a number of fans called on the manager to start him ahead of Victor Lindelof. The Swede wouldn’t have done much better but it was a shame to see as the transfer window closed without another centre-back coming in.

The problem for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is that he has too many centre-backs who aren’t good enough.

Although Bailly failed to impress at the weekend, the manager will be keen to see if the Ivory Coast international can form a partnership with Harry Maguire.

His injury problems have always been a curse, and I feared the worst seeing him floored in pain whilst holding him hamstring.

However, Bailly took to Instagram after the match with a promising update for United fans who still want to see him in the starting line-up.

The defender’s post translates: “Thank you for worrying about me, but I’m doing well. Just fatigue. Goodnight to you all and God protect us. Congratulations to my team for the match against the first ranked team [Belgium are #1 in the FIFA rankings as things stand]!”

Bailly played on the right of a back three but he had to come off after the half-hour mark.

Ivory Coast equalised at the end to make it 1-1.
