Carabao Cup: Manchester United draw Everton away in quarter-finals

Manchester United will travel to Everton in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

The quarter-finals draw was made after Liverpool were knocked out on penalties against Arsenal, who will play Manchester City in the next round.

United overcame Premier League opposition in Brighton on Wednesday night in a 3-0 win. The game had a lot less drama than the hectic encounter between the two sides in the Premier League last weekend.

All four quarter-finals will be shown live on Sky Sports across 22 and 23 December.

It’s a competition that we should be trying to do well in this season, even if we have greater priorities at hand. Playing in the League Cup allows Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a chance to give minutes to fringe players in the squad — and they can win games if they perform to their best ability.

But Everton won’t be easy. They’ve been one of the more impressive teams in the Premier League since the beginning and it will be interesting to see how long their current form lasts.

For the manager, it’s about finding the perfect balance when it comes to fighting on all fronts. United aren’t quite there yet, but it’s a progress which hasn’t been helped by the board’s unwillingness to strengthen the squad this summer.
