Man United starlet makes 40-man shortlist for 2020 Golden Boy award

The 40-man shortlist for the 2020 Golden Boy award has been announced, as per the Daily Mirror.

Manchester United youngster Mason Greenwood made the final list for the prestigious award, along with Man City’s Phil Foden.

It comes just weeks after the pair breached COVID-19 protocols while with England and were both immediately axed from international duty.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has argued that Greenwood has been victimised by the media ever since, with The Sun revealing historic pictures of the United starlet inhaling laughing gas.

Other Premier League players include Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, Liverpool’s Neco Williams and Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Two new Premier League arrivals are also up for the award — Wolves’ Fabio Silva and City’s Ferran Torres — which is enough to suggest both players are worth keeping an eye on.

There is strong competition for the award with Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland also in contention. Not to forget Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, Barcelona’s Ansu Fati and Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior.

Some of you will remember United being linked with Joao Felix last summer, before he left Benfica for Atletico Madrid in a mega-money transfer. He will be disappointed to have missed out of the nominees list but the young Portugal international needs a strong year to silence his critics. Otherwise he will be referred to as an expensive mistake for the La Liga outfit.
