Bruno Fernandes could miss Manchester United’s season opener

Bruno Fernandes has not been at Carrington this week after being given an extended holiday post-internationals as his wife gave birth in Portugal.

Manchester Evening News reporter Samuel Luckhurst has said if Fernandes has been staying in Portugal this week (which he very likely has) he has to be back in Manchester before 4am tomorrow to avoid quarantine.

Portugal has been added to England’s quarantine list, meaning any travellers arriving from 4am on Saturday will have to isolate for two weeks, as per Sky News.

The rule is set to be enforced from early Saturday morning.

If Fernandes doesn’t travel before 4am on Saturday morning, the Portugal international must complete a Passenger Locator Form prior to entry.

Last Thursday, Portugal was added to Wales’ quarantine list which you can imagine will be a worry for clubs across Europe as most start their domestic seasons soon.

United take on Aston Villa in a warm-up match tomorrow and Solskjaer is already likely to be without Paul Pogba, who returned to training this morning after recovering from the coronavirus, as reported by the Mail.

Luckhurst adds that Solskjaer could go with a front six of Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek, Daniel James, Andreas Pereira, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial.

It remains to be seen if Marcus Rashford will make an appearance against Villa in the friendly match. The United forward missed international duty due to an injury he sustained in the Europa League semi-final defeat versus Sevilla.
