Profile: The highly-rated Barcelona wonderkid about to join Manchester United

Manchester United are about to sign their first player from Barcelona since Gerard Pique in 2004.

As reported by Goal, United are close to finalising a transfer for 16-year-old full-back Marc Jurado, with international clearance expected to be sorted imminently.

It is noted that Jurado turned down a contract to remain at the Nou Camp in favour of a move to Old Trafford.

The growing reputation United have for developing and giving opportunities to young talent looks to have convinced one of the most talented players from Barca’s fabled ‘Masia’ youth system.

Jurado has played in Barcelona’s ‘Juvenil A’ team and was likely to progress to the ‘B’ team had he remained in Catalonia.

The Spanish teenager is an attacking right-back with outstanding technical ability having come through the Barcelona youth system.

He is clearly ambitious in seeking a move to United, following in the footsteps in Pique and Cesc Fabregas in the pursuit of a different route to football stardom in moving to a Premier League club.

Jurado would be expected to join up initially with Neil Ryan’s Under-18 side when the move is eventually confirmed, where he will look to impress before graduating to Neil Wood’s Under-23’s.

We can’t wait to see how Jurado develops in the coming seasons within United’s youth systems.
