Who would have predicted United to have finished third after a serious of humiliating results at the turn of the year?
And who could have predicted that Jessie Lingard would be the man to make sure of United’s fate?
Lingard, who has been left out in the cold since the restart, was brought on for Mason Greenwood as the Reds looked to close the game out.
In the final seconds, Kasper Schmeichel tried to round the onrushing Lingard, who capitalised well to intercept before stroking home with his left foot.
