Ryan Giggs has praised the mentality of young Manchester United midfielder Dylan Levitt.
Levitt made his United debut this season in the penultimate Europa League group stage game against Astana in November alongside James Garner in a youthful midfield.
The 19-year-old was one of the more impressive performers on the night, dominating the midfield and looking comfortable in possession.
Despite just a solitary United start, Levitt has been called up to Giggs’ Wales senior squads over the past year, though is yet to earn his first international cap.
While Giggs is yet to utilise the youngster on the international stage, he has impressed in training and is a viewed as player who could break into his first-team.
“When Dylan was in the squad, we (Wales) had must-win games so I couldn’t really throw him in and put him in that pressure cooker,” Giggs told United’s official website.
“But, in training, he’s one of the best. He’s my kind of player – a good character, quiet but tough, and he’s one that I’ll be taking a big look at over the next year or so.
“I want him to develop and if he does and, if he plays more games, then he’ll definitely be in the reckoning. He’s a really intelligent player with a good range of passing and he stands out in training in every session.
“As I said, it’s just a shame that I couldn’t get him on the pitch.”
Levitt is blessed with wonderful natural ability and has every chance of playing for Wales at the delayed European Championships next summer.
But to to be seriously considered, Levitt needs to be playing regular first-team football next term. As noted by the Manchester Evening News, the teenager looks set go out on loan next term as United plot his path into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team squad.
Levitt starred for Neil Wood’s Under-23 side before this season was curtailed by the coronavirus pandemic but has now outgrown age group football. We hope next year he can have his breakthrough and display his talents, perhaps during a temporary spell at a Championship club.
It’s encouraging to hear how excited United great Giggs is about Levitt’s future and we’ll be closing monitoring his development in the months ahead.
