Manchester United’s interest in signing Jadon Sancho this summer has been well documented.
According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, via the United Stand, the club are ‘in love’ with the Borussia Dortmund winger and are desperate to bring him to Old Trafford.
Sancho is seen as the ideal player to fill the void on the right-wing as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to shape his United rebuild.
The England international scored 14 goals and contributed a further 15 in the Bundesliga before the coronavirus outbreak.
His addition would help create one of the most exciting front threes in world football alongside Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
But United will be aware that while they are an attractive option, Sancho is one of the most coveted young stars and has a list of top European clubs chasing his signature.
Therefore, United must prepare for a scenario where they miss out on the 20-year-old and one other Bundesliga star could be the perfect alternative.
As noted by the Evening Standard, Bayern Leverkusen star Kai Havertz also has his admirers within Old Trafford.
Havertz, 20, is another of the brightest talents across Europe and has thrived both on the right-wing and centrally in the Bundesliga.
His versatility makes him an exciting prospect for Solskjaer who prefers playing with a fluid attacking system.
The youngster scored 17 goals in the league in his breakout season last term, and while he has not been prolific in this campaign, he has still shown plenty of glimpses of his talent.
Signing Havertz would certainly soften the blow if United missed out on their top target Sancho this summer.
However, the obvious stumbling block with Havertz will be the price. It is suggested Leverkusen won’t be prepared to let their star man go for anything below £90m despite the financial uncertainty caused by COVID-19.
