Peter Schmeichel picks out his favourite Man United player this season

We do not yet have an indication when Premier League football will return amid the coronavirus pandemic. Manchester United fans have therefore been debating who the player of the season has been up until this point.

There are a few contenders, but not one stand out in a mixed season for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.

Captain Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Fred are all deserving of nominations. A notable mention also has to go to Bruno Fernandes for the impact he has made at the club in a such a short space of time.

Peter Schmeichel has named Fred as his favourite player of the season in a recent Q and A session with fans on his twitter account.

The Brazilian midfielder has turned around his United career in the past few months. He has been one of the most consistent performers for the Reds, starting in 22 Premier League matches this term.

Solskjaer required Fred to step up when Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba suffered long-term injuries and he has brilliantly in a midfield pivot with Nemanja Matic, who has also been impressive.

The pair have been key in allowing Bruno Fernandes a platform to attack during the eleven game unbeaten run before the covid-19 postponement.

Fred responded humbly to Schmeichel’s answer, saying he is honoured to have been mentioned by the man he thinks is the ‘greatest goalkeeper’ in Manchester United’s history.
